Cory Sandhagen recently sat down for a conversation with Demetrious Johnson on his YouTube channel. During their discussion, Johnson urged Sandhagen to confidently challenge Ariel Helwani to a game of basketball.

Ariel, your nose is not going to help you win this basketball game. You can get it anytime, any place. I’ll come to New York or whatever, wherever it is that you live and I’ll beat you in a game of 21 in under ten minutes.

Funny enough, it turns out Ariel Helwani is actually good at the game. Demetrious Johnson revealed that back when he called Helwani out similar to Sandhagen, he found out that the MMA journalist had actually acquired multiple credentials in the sport during college.

Ariel Helwani has a weekly basketball show on YouTube that features interviews with basketball stars. He also used to play basketball with his friends and would pretend to do a post-game interview after the game.

Sandhagen believes he has the build and the skills to fight opponents at the higher weight class.

There’s definitely gonna be some fights for me up at 145 at some point. I think that I have the frame and all that stuff to where I would do just fine in that division.

Sandhagen revealed that most of his training partners are 155 lbs and up. He has a fight coming up against Umar Nurmagomedov. They will fight this August at the Etihad Arena In Abu Dhabi at UFC on ABC 7.
