"WTC loss doesn’t define Rohit’s captaincy," Under-fire Rohit Sharma gets backing from former Australia captain Michael Clarke

Team India lost the WTC Final to Australia in a humiliating fashion and received severe backlash from various ex-cricketers except for Michael Clarke. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was criticized harshly for his performance and captaincy. His comments during the post-match conference were also questioned.

However, former Australian captain Michael Clarke spoke in support of the team and showed faith in Sharma’s Captaincy. He believes that it isn’t fair to solely define the skipper’s ability on the basis of the result of one WTC Final.

Michael Clarke believes that making it two consecutive finals is an achievement in itself and India’s ability as a team must not be disregarded or questioned. Talking to RevSportz, Clarke said, “Losing a one-off final doesn’t make him a bad captain and nor does it make India a bad team. To make consecutive finals isn’t easy.”

The 2015 ODI World Cup-winning captain said that losing a high-intensity one-off match does not take away from what Rohit Sharma and Team India have been able to achieve. He appreciated the Indian skipper’s captaincy and approach.

“I would be keeping faith with Rohit, I think he is a very good captain. I like his aggressive approach, he looks to be as positive as he can be. He has had a lot of success as a leader (look at his IPL record for Mumbai) just because India didn’t win the Test World Championship doesn’t mean Rohit is not the right guy to lead India,” Clarke said.

Michael Clarke believes it’s not over for Rohit or Team India yet and with the ODI world cup around the corner, with stability in the captaincy department, fortunes can change.
