JJ Redick recently called out Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers for not taking accountability for the team’s poor performance since his joining as the head coach. Redick admitted that despite it being a difficult task to take over a team in the middle of the season, blaming the players cannot be an excuse.

After the Buck’s shocking loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Rivers during the press conference talked about the players’ abysmal performance which led the team to a loss. After the Bucks’ record of 3-7 under him, the coach explained the difficulty of taking over the coaching of a team in the middle of the season.

Bucks guard Patrick Beverley was not happy with Redick’s comments. Beverley defended coach Rivers and came at Redick on X by saying Rivers as a coach saved the shooting guard’s career by adding him to the starting lineup.

This Man Doc actually saved your career. Started you when no one else wanted 2. And u retire go on TV and say that.

Redick played under Doc Rivers’ head coaching for four years from 2013 to 2017. Redick, as a Los Angeles Clipper, was in the starting lineup for the first time since the beginning of his career.

On February 8, Patrick Beverley was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Milwaukee Bucks. He has only played four games for the team so far under Rivers’ coaching. Hence, him defending Rivers from Redick’s comments did not sit well with fans.

Fans on X expressed that Beverley did not need to get involved in Redick’s feelings about Rivers. They also defended Redick’s comments, saying the sports analyst was correct about his statement and his career was not saved by Rivers.

Redick also responded to Beverley’s comments saying that he had a similar offer with four years to be a starter from a different team. The retired guard told Beverley that Rivers did not play a part in saving his career.
