WILD stat from UFC 303 is bad look for Jon Jones' next fight against Stipe Miocic

Jon Jones has been out of action for more than a year now. The fighter was supposed to defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. However, due to his pectoral injury, the fight was canceled. But still, Jones is eager to wait for the legacy fight. But there are some facts that might set a bad precedent for the marketing of the fight.

Stipe Miocic is an absolute legend of the sport and has been around in the UFC heavyweight division for a long time. The former champion has fought many fighters, including Daniel Cormier, Alistair Overeem, and Francis Ngannou. However, all these fighters have either retired or left the promotion. At UFC 303, Miocic’s former opponent, Andrei Arlovski fought his last bout in the promotion.

With the departure of Arlovski, Miocic has now fought no one in the current heavyweight division. It is wild to think that in a division filled with young fighters like Tom Aspinall, Sergei Pavlovich, Curtis Blaydes, etc Stipe Miocic hasn’t fought anybody. His last fight was at UFC 260 where he lost his heavyweight title.

Irrespective of Jon Jones continuously pushing the narrative that Stipe Miocic is the best fight for him. The fighter has attracted much criticism from fight fans. Interim champion Tom Aspinall accused ‘Bones’ of holding the division and ducking him for the title unification bout. On top of all that Jones is now being linked to fight Alex Pereira and Dana White seems to have liked the idea.

Dana White compares Alex Pereira and Jon Jones’ pound-for-pound rankings

Alex Pereira made light work of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303 and won the fight via TKO. This win helped Pereira to transcend to a different category of fighters and now fans want him to fight Jon Jones. During the post-fight interview, the Brazilian revealed that he’s ready to move if fans want to see the superfight between him and Jones.

Dana White recently revealed he has been frequently asked to make the fight from the likes of Joe Rogan. However, White is a little hesitant about it but thinks there is still a possibility. Speaking about their pound-for-pound rankings, White still favors Jones over anybody else.

He’s another guy that’s moved up and is willing to move up to heavyweight, so for all those who don’t know what pound-for-pound means, that’s what it means. But still as long as Jon Jones is still in the conversation, Jon Jones has never lost.

With fans frequently questioning Jones’ choice to fight Stipe Miocic, it won’t be surprising to see UFC changing their decision. The hype behind Pereira vs. Jones is much bigger and could potentially do better business. It all depends on what the UFC top brass and Jones decide as their next move.
