Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schroder is one of the fastest guards in the NBA today. He has the ability to guard players and keep up with their speed, allowing him to make great defensive plays. Currently, Schroder is representing his country, Germany, in the 2024 Paris Olympics. During the pre-game ceremony, Schroder was announced as the flag bearer for Germany, one of the greatest honors an athlete can receive.
Dennis Schroder was more than just proud when he waved the German flag on a boat on the Seine River during the opening ceremony. He also saw it as a symbol of overcoming racism in his own country. In a recent interview with Andscape, Schroder spoke about being the flag bearer for Germany.
That was my goal to set a big statement, an important statement in Germany, to show all those [who are] Black, light skin, whatever color, even if you’re Asian, if you’re Turkish, that you guys can do something with a lot of hard work and passion. And that was a big statement that we set in Germany that a Black guy carried that flag.

Schroder shared that his mother is from Gambia. Over the years, he has faced discrimination because of his skin color but managed to overcome it through hard work and passion for the game. He also mentioned that his family faced a lot of discrimination as well. Schroder’s dedication has led to him becoming the first Black man to be the flag bearer for Germany at the Olympics.
“With my background as well, my mom’s from Gambia, me being dark-skinned in Germany, been tough sometimes growing up… To be able to represent Germany, it’s insane.”

Schroder is also playing great basketball in the Olympics and had an impressive game against Greece in the quarterfinals. Germany has advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament and will be facing tough teams like France and the USA. Schroder will be aiming to win the gold medal for Germany in this Olympics.

Few days back Germany faced Greece in the quarter finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The game was intense toward the end, but Germany managed to shut down Greece’s offense. In the end, Germany secured the win with a final score of 76-63.
Schroder had a slow start to the game, adding only 13 points in total. However, his points came at a crucial time when his team needed them most. Germany also implemented one of the toughest defenses against Greece, which was a key reason for their victory.
Germany won the FIBA basketball tournament last year and is entering the current Olympics with great momentum. They are one of the stronger teams in the tournament and will be playing their next game against France.
