When 'Prince' Shubman Gill revealed he follows 'IDOL' Virat Kohli's intense work ethics but doesn't copy him

India youngster Shubman Gill has been in stunning form in recent times as one can judge by looking at how, at a faster rate, he has been reaching heights in his cricketing career. After hogging the limelight through his exploits in the U-19 World Cup, Gill cemented his spot in the Indian playing XI and is now eyeing massive records scripted by the greats of the game.

And who is his role model? Who inspired the Punjab-born batter in his cricketing journey? It’s none other than former India captain Virat Kohli. Though the fans have started comparing them based on their stats, these two share a good camaraderie between them.

Gill has often talked about his admiration for Kohli and his work ethic. The 34-year-old is known for his discipline, dedication, and intense training to stay fit to give his 120 percent on the field, be it with the bat or while fielding. Hailed as “Prince” by the fans, Gill, in an interview with the Times of India ahead of the South Africa Test series at home in 2019 (where Gill earned his call for Test debut but did not play a single game), revealed that he follows Kohli’s work ethics.

“I have my role models. I try to follow the work ethics of Virat bhaiya but I know every player is different and you can’t copy anyone,” Gill had said.

Gill recently crossed Virat Kohli as the fastest Indian batsman to complete 1000 runs. He also broke Kohli’s record by becoming the youngest top-order batter.

The 23-year-old has the second-highest ODI batting average (65.55). By collecting 1000 runs off just 19 matches, he became the second fastest to do so. In 16 Tests, 24 ODIs, and six T20Is, Gill has accumulated 921, 1311, and 202 runs respectively.
