The 2024 Super Bowl was historical for many reasons! It became the most-watched telecast in television history according to CBS Sports. Records were broken on the night. Furthermore, for the first time in history, the big game was telecasted in two distinct formats. One of those formats was a kids’ version on the Nickelodeon channel, in which, SpongeBob SquarePants savagely roasted Leonardo DiCaprio.
While CBS telecasted the traditional version of the game, Nickelodeon broadcasted the kids and family version. In their broadcast, they used the voices and animation of famous cartoon characters SpongeBob Squarepants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke) for commentary along with traditional commentators Noah Eagle and Nate Burleson.
During their broadcast, the voice actors for the cartoon characters took brutal shots at Leonardo DiCaprio’s dating history. In a clip that went viral on the social media platform X, Nickelodeon commentators could be seen taking a shot at DiCaprio after ‘The Departed’ star was shown on the screen.
“Catch me if you can with these pizzas Leonardo ‘da cap is low,” said Star (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke) referring to the star’s movie. But it was SpongeBob who turned that into a DiCaprio roast. “Leonardo DiCaprio, 25,” said SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny) referencing the popular show from the scene where the character loses it over the number 25. And then he delivered the punchline:
