Seth Rollins' match against 40-year-old superstar gets hijacked by crowd after SmackDown went off-air

The World Heavyweight Championship traveled to the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando this week. Seth Rollins successfully retained his gold against Bron Breakker. Despite having damaged ribs, courtesy of Finn Balor’s heinous assault last night on Raw, The Visionary displayed sheer perseverance. Clocking a highly physical encounter over 15 minutes on NXT: Gold Rush, Rollins pinned Breakker after a couple of stomps.

Just when the champ was heading backstage and celebrated his triumph on the entrance ramp, someone ran over him from behind. And of course, that was Finn Balor. Merely a day removed from last night’s insanity in Cleveland, The Prince wasn’t satisfied and decided to replicate the act. However, this time around, Balor’s unholy intentions didn’t come to fruition as Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams came to Rollins’ aid.

Once Seth regained his footing, he dared Finn to come face him man-to-man. However, the Irishman played smartly and stayed out of harm’s way. And just like that, the show rolled off-cameras. Needless to say, WWE is pushing this rivalry as they should. Balor hasn’t been able to digest what transpired at SummerSlam, nearly 7 years ago. Using this as the central idea of this whole saga, the creative has done a commendable job so far.

Although, Balor never got reported of a real-life backstage heat against Rollins for that infamous spot, a storyline-driven usage is more than welcomed. In just a week from this Saturday, it all comes down to who can survive in this race of fittest. A roaring sold-out crowd at the O2 arena will definitely add to the atmosphere, while Rollins & Balor gear up for a classic World Heavyweight Championship showdown.

Battling through a number of matches, Finn earned his way to the finals of Universal Championship tournament. His alter-ego ‘Demon Balor’ squared off against Seth Rollins at the Barclays Centre. After a fantastic display of wrestling, the Judgment Day member became the Inaugural Universal Champion. However, 24 hours later on Raw, he was forced to relinquish the title.

So being so, because he dislocated his shoulder. Due to an abrupt throw from Rollins on a barricade at SummerSlam, Balor was badly hurt. That injury took a year off his main-roster career. Till date, he remains one of the biggest ‘what ifs’ in WWE history. Fans still wonder what could’ve been the scenario if Finn Balor never got injured in the first place.
