The Sacramento Kings have endured a poor start to the 2024-25 NBA season. They have not performed up to the standards that are expected of them. The Kings were one of the standout performers last season but have looked a different side this season. Notably, the Kings played against the Brooklyn Nets in their most recent matchup.

Once again, the Kings were dealt a harsh blow against the Nets. However, what caught everyone’s attention was Kings HC Mike Brown‘s interaction with an NBA referee. At the Golden 1 Center, Brown played with flames during a furious altercation with an official during the second quarter.

Shortly after officials failed to call what Brown thought was a foul on a drive by Colby Jones, the Kings coach entered the court in a furious mood to consult with a referee. The NBA community was left stunned by Brown’s reaction as they did not expect to see this. Remarkably, Brown just received a technical for his outburst, and he stayed on the sidelines as Sacramento overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half.

As for the Kings, they came back from a 19-point deficit but it wasn’t enough to secure the win. Kings’ De’Aaron Fox scored 31 points, scoring 10 of 16 field goals and 3 of 4 three-pointers. He only made 8 of 12 free throws. On the other hand, Cam Thomas scored 34 points for the Nets (6–10), making 4 of 9 3-pointers and 11 of 21 from the field.

Mike Brown could see repeat of January 2024 for outburst

Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown went at the referee against the Brooklyn Nets in his side’s most recent matchup. Brown seemed unhappy with the refs regarding a particular decision. He then lashed out at a ref, leading to a heated conversion. That said, this is not the first time Brown has been involved with the refs.

In January of this year, Brown’s outburst against the officials after his team’s 143-142 overtime loss against the Milwaukee Bucks was one of the reasons he received a $50,000 fine. After surging toward referee Intae Hwang and yelling in fury, Brown was dismissed in the fourth quarter. Moreover, his players needed to restrain him.

Now, he did the same against the Nets. This could see a possible fine coming in from the NBA as these actions are against the rules and regulations of the NBA. However, Brown was not ejected this time around and was given a technical foul instead. Hence, it remains to be seen how this situation will unfold in the coming days.
