Abubakar Nurmagomedov had a nice little present for his coach Javier Mendez. In a recent video on Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s YouTube channel, the Russian MMA fighter revealed an interesting and well-thought-out memorabilia that he presented to Mendez in the presence of Khabib and other teammates.
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s YouTube channel recently released a video from the training camp in Dubai. In that video, Abubakar Nurmagomedov revealed a customized knife that he had engraved to present to his coach Javier Mendez.
Today I have a gift. I wouldn’t say it’s ‘wow’ but I think he will like it. It’s a knife with Javier’s face, our coach, engraved on it.

The knife had Javier Mendez engraved along with his former self with his ISKA Muay Thai belt. On the other side of the handle, Nurmagomedov had Mendez’s champions engraved on it including Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez, and Luke Rockhold. Interestingly, Abubakar Nurmagomedov humbly did not include himself in the engravings.
Javier Mendez had a successful career as a kickboxer. He won his first world championship in 1992 when he became the ISKA Light-Cruiserweight Champion. Mendez founded AKA in 1985 in San Jose, California. Originally a kickboxing gym, it has since become one of the premier MMA training facilities globally. Under Mendez’s coaching, Velasquez became a two-time UFC heavyweight champion, and Rockhold became the UFC middleweight champion.
Conor McGregor calls out Khabib Nurmagomedov for fleeing Russia
Conor McGregor has attacked Khabib Nurmagomedov in a yet again deleted post on X. This time it was a callback to their legendary showdown in the octagon back in 2018 when Nurmagomedov delivered a crushing defeat to the Irishman. Unfortunately, the rivalry did not end inside the octagon as a massive brawl erupted between the two camps.

However, ‘The Eagle’ took a firm stand against it and even threatened to leave the promotion himself. ‘The Notorious’ brought this up in his latest tweet where he accused the Dagestani of fleeing his country and abandoning his family.
It was recently revealed that Nurmagomedov allegedly owes $3.3 million in taxes to the Russian government. The Irishman has taken multiple shots at the Dagestani ever since this news went public. While it is unlikely that McGregor and Nurmagomedov will ever step into the octagon together, what is certain is that the rivalry will not end anytime soon.
