The saga concerning the UFC 303 main event is in full swing. PPV Buyout king and undisputed sports icon Conor McGregor sits in the smack-dabbing middle of it. After failing to make an appearance for media obligations to promote his UFC 303 headliner, ‘Notorious’ planted some seeds of doubts. Things had spiraled far enough to think he would pull out of the June 29 event. However, McGregor might have put those rumors to bed.

The Irishman uploaded a series of ten short training reels on his Instagram (@thenotoriousmma). The Team SBG Ireland’s top crop is seen in multiple sparring sessions. From his signature high kick to range attacks, body shots, takedown defenses, his stylistic jump kick, and more. He even uploaded a few stills from his Crumlin Boxing Gym. Even former promotion Cage Warriors took notice in the comments section.

He will return in a five-round headliner at UFC 303 during International Fight Week in Nevada. McGregor is to face welterweight debutant Michael Chandler. Last Monday, the UFC announced that their promotional conference in Dublin was off. They did not give a reason why. McGregor’s failure to turn up at 3Arena’s home turf had spread rampant speculation.

Rumors began to circulate that he picked up an injury; his usual cryptic teases did not help matters any. On Wednesday, MMA journalist Ariel Helwani boosted morales with positive notions that the fight was on. McGregor’s 10-slide post seemingly could be a mix of new and old footage; if it’s any indication of his current stage, then ‘Mac’ is firing on all cylinders.

McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) has been on a long layoff since his 2021 leg break. The 35-year-old will headline the June 29th pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena. However, his canceling media obligations for UFC 303’s kickoff press conference did not sit well with fans. There are still no reasons given as to why; his recent social space updates have been encouraging, though.

As of May 30, 2024, sportsbooks had the returning superstar as a -115 bettor’s favorite to slight underdog Michael Chandler. The oddsmakers are equally split between the two. This is because he and Chandler — former Bellator lightweight world champion, haven’t fought in quite a while. Except for the nostalgia of his return, nothing separates the former dual-division champ.

McGregor isn’t always a good turnout on closing odds to win. However, with Chandler having the repertoire of a glass cannon, early bets shifted McGregor as high as -128. Even after his recent teases that he is all well, odd has only slightly turned north. This includes BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, bet365, FanDuel, and others. Micahel Chandler has had more substantial buybacks, though. Come UFC 303, it’s anyone’s guess who comes out a winner.
