Bronny James played for his USC Trojans against the UCLA Bruins tonight in an NCAA Pac-12 matchup. In the game against their crosstown rivals, many anticipated it to be a showdown.

During the second half, USC was to receive an inbound pass from the UCLA baseline. The ball came to USC forward Arrinten Page, who took a step and launched at the rim for a dunk. UCLA’s Adem Bona came over to block the shot but took Page hard to the floor.

Bronny James was closest to the incident, came over to help his fallen teammate, and tried to move Bona off of Page. Bona got up and shoved James from behind. The referee closest to the situation instantly called a technical foul on Bona.

It did matter that James complained to the referee that Bona had shoved him from behind for no reason. This entire scenario added to the tension that was building in the Battle of L.A. But what riled up fans was that the technical foul was not necessary considering the shove from Bona was not severe.

It does not help that Bronny James’ father is the famous Los Angeles Lakers superstar. That link does have a hand when it comes to how opponents treat you. But in this scenario, it is evident that James Jr. does have an idea of how to use the situation to influence the referees.
