Colby Covington is looking to get back into the octagon. However, the former interim champion is no longer interested in Ian Garry. Why is that? They had gone back and forth for a while. However, Covington’s latest interview shows him mentioning Belal Muhammad and Charles Oliveira as potential legacy fights.

Colby Covington recently sat down for a conversation with Submission Radio. During their discussion, Covington brought up Belal Muhammad and Charles Oliveira and how he only wants legacy matchups.

I would like Belal. He’s talked a lot of smack . I want that racist to catch a fade. He’s a racist and now he’s squatting on his ranking, guys, he should have to come out and fight … I want legacy fights. I think a guy like Charles Oliveira makes sense. He was out there saying the other day that he wants to come up to welterweight … You want this fight? You really wanna come up to welterweight? … Let’s see if you’re about it or if you’re just talk.

According to Covington, he only wants matchups that will improve his legacy. He is 36 years old and has fought three title fights but failed to win any one of them. He held the interim welterweight title from 2018 to 2021 and currently ranks #4 in the welterweight division.

It is important that Covington solidifies his legacy and goes out in the best possible manner. A serious injury at this stage would pretty much wreak his career for life. Meanwhile, Belal Muhammad has consistently won his last few fights since 2019. On the other hand, Charles Oliveira recently lost against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 for the number one contender position.

Colby Covington offers to save the day if Conor McGregor or Michael Chandler back out at UFC 303

Colby Covington also mentioned the upcoming UFC 303 event during his interview on Submission Radio. He talked about Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor. The host asked him if he was willing to be the backup fighter for this fight. Covington had something interesting to say about this.

Colby Covington said he refuses to be a backup fighter. However, he said the UFC can call him on very short notice and he would be ready to fight.

No, I did not mention that I would be the backup, I am not a backup fighter anymore. I mentioned if someone got hurt, and they need someone to save the day, they know who to call. I am coming out here fighting at 60%.

He expressed his love for the company and love for fighting. Covington said that he is ready to throw down even if they call him the day before weigh-ins. Meanwhile, Conor McGregor is making his return after a long time out of the octagon. UFC 303 is already projected to be a massive event and a big-money fight card. Will Colby Covington back up his talk and step in the octagon against McGregor or Chandler if one of them gets injured? Only time will tell.
