Last week, the fighter-turned-podcaster Brendan Schaub opened up about the debilitating CTE conditions of his friend Shane Carwin. The retired Carwin made quite the plea for better compensation given the rigor of his health; fighters revealing tidbits supporting the antitrust settlement are still on the ball. Schaub was in tears explaining the situation. Hours later, Nate Diaz took a personal shot and angered Schaub.

Brendan Schaub has for long been critical of his “pioneer gangster” gimmick. He also billed that Jorge Masvidal utterly dominated him until a doctor stoppage saved his pseudo act at UFC 244. Diaz edged out ‘Gamebred’ via a majority decision (95-95, 97-93, 98-92) in their Fanmio Pay-per-view headliner.
However, Schaub alludes to the fact that the 39-year-old had to file lawsuits against CEO Solomon Engel for duping him of his $10m fighter compensation. Diaz is without money or a current fight booking. Hence, Schaub has a reply for the gutsy ‘clout’ chasing tweet.

Schaub ended up retiring in 2014 after losing to Travis Browne via first-round TKO at UFC 181. It was a moment that led to friend and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan having a moment urging retirement. But if the current trajectory is any indication, there’s still fight left in him. However, Diaz isn’t one to back down, either.

The Stockton Slugger might have gone free agent and is hardly championship material anymore. But Nate Diaz was a slugger, delivering electric moments and brawls. He has a reputation of being the UFC’s biggest gangster, and he holds on to it even today. But what’s a gangster to a sympathetic friend or brother? That would be Brendan Schaub.
The fighter’s still inside Schaub, he says. If Diaz wants a fight, Schaub will oblige, even though he’s not looking for one. He also did cue in that, unlike his ‘fake gangster’ attitude, if it were his brother Nick Diaz suffering CTE, he would have supported him.
However, gangsters don’t give a hoot. Naturally, the younger Diaz brother was made aware of Schaub’s “what you gonna do” comments – and took to social media to respond. He ended up using one of Schaub’s infamous phrases from JRE in the process.

As far as Schaub is concerned, he has a lot of respect for what Diaz has done as a fighter. But that doesn’t matter in this situation. Hence, both parties are prone to firing on all cylinders at once. Consequently, it’s not like the unhinged Diaz would take that laying on his back, hat in hand.
In 2017, Diaz had a confrontation with Schaub over his thoughts on Conor McGregor’s performance and called him names. This was during his ‘Money’ fight vs. Floyd Mayweather. For the most part, the two have stayed out of each other’s lives, but this random feud seems out of bounds now.
