Afghanistan pacer Naveen Ul Haq has finally opened up on the on-field spat with India batting stalwart Virat Kohli during IPL 2023. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) cricketer has openly held Kohli accountable for the spat, saying that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter started the fight. Naveen also claimed that Kohli grabbed his hands forcefully after the match.
Notably, Naveen Ul Haq and Virat Kohli were involved in an ugly verbal spat during a match between RCB and LSG in IPL 2023. Such was the intensity of the spat that LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir had to step in to save his player.
Even after several days, Naveen Ul Haq took indirect digs at Kohli through his Instagram stories and posts. On the other hand, Kohli fans gave it back to Naveen by chanting the former India captain’s name whenever Naveen took the field.
Naveen Ul Haq talks about on-field spat with Virat Kohli
The Afghanistan cricketer has now opened up about this verbal fight with Kohli. Haq, while speaking to BBC Pashto said Kohli grabbed his hand forcefully when the two teams’ players shook hands after the games while he (Naveen) just reacted to it.
“He shouldn’t have said all those things during the match and after it. I didn’t start the fight. After the match, when we were shaking hands, Virat Kohli started the fight,” Naveen said.
“Players, who were there they know how I dealt with the situation. I never lost my temper, when I was batting or after the match. What I did after the match can be seen by everyone. I was just shaking hands and then he (Kohli) caught my hand forcefully and I am also a human being and I reacted,” Naveen further said.
It’s worth mentioning that Virat Kohli has not spoken anything in this regard and may not do so. However, the Indian cricketer put up a story about the perspective the next day of the event.
