Colby Covington‘s 2024 season was a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Despite being largely inactive throughout the year, his much-anticipated return to the octagon last month left fans dissatisfied. Concerns about his future in the UFC have been mounting among supporters, but true to his persona, ‘Chaos’ appears unfazed.Â

Covington attributed his loss at UFC Tampa to a hectic schedule during the election season, which impacted his training. The bout saw him dominated by a younger, hungrier Joaquin Buckley, ending in a doctor’s stoppage. Covington’s underwhelming performance has sparked doubts among fans and experts alike about his current standing in the sport.
UFC veteran talks about Colby Covington’s loss at UFC 311
After losing the UFC welterweight title bout to Leon Edwards, Colby Covington took a year-long break from fighting. Returning to UFC Tampa on short notice, he surprised fans with a calmer demeanor compared to his usual personality. However, staying true to his controversial style, Covington couldn’t resist throwing a few verbal jabs at Jon Jones instead.
Unlike his trademark trash-talking, Covington chose not to verbally target his opponent, Joaquin Buckley in the build-up to the fight. On the other hand, the ‘New Mansa’ was full of energy and continued the same inside the octagon. Former UFC champion Luke Rockhold recently talked about the fight and highlighted Covington’s lack of momentum and ring rust.Â
Although Covington didn’t argue with the referee when the fight was stopped, he took to Twitch to express frustration over the premature stoppage. The fighter claimed he could have finished Buckley in the later rounds if the bout had not been halted. Now, it remains to be seen what lies ahead for the former title contender.
