Conor McGregor's downfall

Conor McGregor hasn’t stepped into the octagon since his leg injury in 2021, which derailed his fighting career. Though his highly anticipated return was initially set for UFC 303 earlier this year, those plans ultimately fell through. Yet, the ‘Notorious’ continues to entertain his fans. If not in the cage, then certainly out on the streets.

Conor McGregor recently posted a few videos of him doing an open workout session on the streets with full music and an audience. As expected, he was surrounded by several fans who were excited to see the former UFC double champion hitting pads. McGregor had his partner Dee Devlin and his kids along in his $3.6 million yacht.

The superstar persona was on full display as fans lined up to take pictures and autographs from McGregor. He recently announced that he might fight top lightweight Dan Hooker in early 2025. While there is no confirmation, Hooker and UFC CEO Dana White are down for the business.

McGregor has also agreed to potentially participate in a PFL bout in order to corner a fellow Irishman against Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s cousin. Despite the three-year hiatus, fans eagerly await McGregor’s return. However, his recent antics have made it hard for fans to believe in his promises.

Conor McGregor explains the reason for his downfall

Conor McGregor’s downfall began after his 2016 UFC lightweight title win. His focus shifted toward a high-profile boxing match, business venture, and personal controversies, such as legal issues. Followed by losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018 and Dustin Poirier in 2021 exposed vulnerabilities in his once-dominant fighting style. Injuries, including a broken leg in 2021, further hampered his return.

McGregor’s inconsistent fighting schedule and off-cage distractions overshadowed his previous success, leading to a decline in his MMA dominance. In an interview, the fighter talked about not being able to stick to a schedule and always procrastinating.

In my head I was saying, get up at this time. I didn’t get up at that time. Train at this time, i didn’t train at that time. Don’t drink that, I drank it and these all just infiltrate my mental strength.

During his prime McGregor was an inspiration for millions of fans around the world, however, things have changed a lot since that. McGregor still enjoys a huge amount of attention. However, young fighters like Sean O’Malley and Ilia Topuria have mocked him for his alleged alcohol and drug addiction. It would be interesting to see whether the ‘Mystic Mac’ will ever make it back inside the octagon.
