Director Venkat Prabhu recently made an appearance at an event where he shared his thoughts on his film The Greatest Of All Time, starring Thalapathy Vijay, being compared to Vijayakanth’s Rajadurai.

In a video posted by Movie Tamil on X (formerly Twitter), the director admitted that he only found out about the Vijayakanth movie after The GOAT was released. He expressed, “I swear, it was only after The GOAT hit the theaters that I learned about a film with a similar storyline. When I saw many people mentioning this on social media, that’s when I decided to watch the movie Rajadurai.”

He went on to say, “If I had known about it earlier, I could have enhanced my story even more after watching it. The theme of father versus son is a timeless script. I have watched various English movies with a similar theme, but somehow missed this one.”

Venkat Prabhu also discussed how movies can serve as inspiration for each other and how he personally gains insights on filmmaking by watching them.

For those unfamiliar, Rajadurai is a Tamil film featuring Captain Vijayakanth in a dual role as father and son. The father, an honest IPS officer, has his son kidnapped by an adversary who raises him to seek revenge in the future.

Interestingly, the movie was directed by Thalapathy Vijay’s father, SA Chandrasekhar, and starred actors like Jayasudha, Sivaranjani, and R. Sundarrajan in significant roles.

On the other hand, The Greatest Of All Time, starring Vijay, also explores a similar plot where an anti-terrorist squad spy agent loses his son only to reunite with him years later. Vijay portrays both the father and son, with the narrative orchestrated by a former villain in the father’s life.

The film received mixed reviews and features actors like Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, Sneha, Meenakshi Chaudhary, and more in pivotal roles. It is now available for streaming on Netflix, offering viewers a chance to delve into this intriguing tale.
