As such, he has recently made some bold claims about his wrestling prowess in the division and even against division champion, Islam Makhachev. Here is what happened:
Mateusz Gamrot recently sat down for a conversation with Jake Noecker on the Home Of Fight YouTube channel. Gamrot confidently stated that he believes he is the best wrestler in the lightweight division, even superior to the reigning champion, Islam Makhachev.
In my opinion, I am the best wrestler in the lightweight division. Of course, Islam is super high level, and he always shows high-level skill, but if I meet him in the cage, I think he can’t take me down, but I will.

He stated that in a potential showdown with Makhachev, he could outwrestle the champion. Gamrot predicted that Makhachev would not be able to take him down, but he could take Makhachev down. He also mentioned his desire to face Makhachev shortly, possibly in the next year or two, to prove who truly holds the crown as the best wrestler in the division.

‘Gamer’ acknowledged Makhachev’s high-level skills. However, he remained confident in his own abilities, particularly his wrestling base. Before joining the UFC, Gamrot was a two-division champion in KSW, holding both the featherweight and lightweight titles. His wrestling prowess was evident throughout his KSW career, where he successfully defended his titles multiple times.
Mateusz Gamrot on a potential rematch with Arman Tsarukyan
During the interview on Home Of Fight, Mateusz Gamrot has expressed interest in a potential rematch with Arman Tsarukyan. He had previously defeated the interim contender back in 2022. Gamrot is currently preparing for his fight against Dan Hooker at UFC 305.
He continued to emphasize his confidence in his wrestling abilities. ‘Gamer’ acknowledged Tsarukyan as a tough opponent but has been vocal about wanting to test himself against the top fighters in the division, including Tsarukyan.
For me, this is great fight. I love stylistic like Arman. I think if we get the rematch, the result will be the same or I can finish him.
