Former UFC welterweight title challenger Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington recently experienced a harsh defeat at UFC Tampa against Joaquin Buckley. Following this loss, there has been a strong outcry within the UFC community regarding Covington’s performance as a fighter. Recently, several UFC legends have also shared their perspectives on the American fighter’s recent performances in the promotion.
The JAXXON podcast recently featured Chuck Liddell and Luke Rockhold in an engaging episode hosted by Bear Degidio. The trio explored various intriguing topics, including a discussion about Colby Covington’s recent fight performances and his defeats. As such, they shared their insightful analysis of the matter. Liddell in particular even highlighted that Covington currently lacks confidence in his fighting.
Covington was a dominant force in the UFC welterweight division. Through his wrestling-based fighting style, ‘Chaos’ has defeated several formidable opponents. As a result, he has often sought big-money matchups against top UFC fighters. However, according to Liddell and Rockhold, Covington currently lacks the hunger and confidence that he once had, an assessment that many fans have also echoed.
In addition to competing in the UFC, Covington has participated in various activities outside of the cage recently. Notably, he was involved in the election campaign for the newly elected U.S. President, Donald Trump as the American fighter has always admired him.
Covington himself acknowledged that his involvement in the campaign contributed to his poor performance at UFC Tampa. Interestingly, many also criticized him for appearing unserious about the sport. Despite that, Covington is still a hot potential opponent for many in the division.
Gilbert Burns wants Colby Covington to ‘sign the contract’ of their potential fight
Colby Covington has always been an outspoken fighter. Over the years, he has engaged in back-and-forth exchanges with several prominent individuals in the MMA community. One of his most notable rivalries is with his former teammate Jorge Masvidal, which has been filled with harsh criticisms from both sides. Recently, Gilbert Burns also found himself in a heated online confrontation with Covington.
Covington intervened in the conflict between his close associate, Chael Sonnen, and Gilbert Burns. He vowed to take action against Burns for leaking Sonnen’s phone number to the public. In response, the Brazilian fighter did not hold back. He mocked Covington over his recent defeat and urged him to take him on in the next fight.

It will be interesting to see if the UFC decides to pursue this intriguing matchup in the near future.
