The face of MMA has gone through many stars likes Chuck Liddell, Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor and so on. But there is only one name of Jon Jones that dwarfs every single star in this sphere in terms of accolades. Jones remains the only fighter with 20-fight unbeaten streak in UFC. It has left only one looming name of Tom Aspinall left to fight.
‘Bones’ is still youngest fighter at just 23 years old to win UFC gold, something that no one has come close to best. After running through gauntlets of challengers in 205lbs, Jon Jones has altered his approach. Interestingly enough, the heavyweight version of Jones is demanding f***k you money for next outing. This take may have baffled the community but UFC Icon Jon Anik seems onboard with the idea.
Jon Anik wants the UFC to come terms with the heavyweight champion to book this dream fight. However, this isn’t the only dream fight that fans are dying to see, as PFL heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou wants the superfight. This match-up might never come to fruition, given White’s ongoing beef with the Cameroonian star.
If Jones come back for one more time, he will once again receive a huge payday. The 37-year-old mixed martial artist has drawn criticism from fans for allegedly ducking Tom Aspinall. For the first time in Jones’ 15-year-long career, he has opened up as an underdog against the British heavyweight star. There is a possibility that Jones could walk away but Aspinall received some positive updates after UFC 309.
Tom Aspinall gets positive update from UFC regarding Jon Jones mega-fight
The Interim heavy-weight champion was in attendance of UFC 309, where Jones defended his strap against the aging Stipe Miocic. In his reaction video on YouTube, Aspinall revealed being affirmed by UFC brass to get the mega-fight, despite Jones’ continued dismissal. The British star even had a closed door meeting with UFC, which further solidified the unification bout.
Similarly, Jones was also approached by UFC brass, as the two parties are currently haggling over the next payout. Jones also revealed that he looked forward to making his return in early 2025. This update would sound as a pleasant news to Aspinall, who is also waiting for confirmation.
Aspinall is currently riding a three-fight win streak with an interim title defense to his name. The English fighter has beaten numerous top ranked fighters leaving Jones as lonesome obstacle. Dana White has promised to make this fight happen next, but no one knows when.
The UFC boss could follow through on Jon Anik’s advice to book this marquee heavyweight clash for international fight week in Las Vegas. Two things remain certain. It will go down as the biggest heavyweight fights in UFC history. Plus, Jones will earn the biggest payday of his career.
