The NFL season did not start ideally for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The 30-year-old athlete was arrested just outside Hard Rock Stadium a few hours before the teamโ€™s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As fans made their way to the stadium for the season opener, they encountered the incident and wondered if their star player would be able to participate in the game.

โ€œThat was quite a surprise on the way, man,โ€ shared Hill, who is nicknamed โ€œCheetahโ€ for being the fastest player in the NFL, during a post-game interview.

Below, HollywoodLife has gathered everything we know about Tyreekโ€™s arrest.

Hill, who was originally drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, was handcuffed on the morning of Sunday, September 8. According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington in a post on X (formerly Twitter), โ€œIโ€™m told by sources Tyreek Hill was cited for reckless driving as a result of his incident outside the stadium with police.โ€ย Darlington further explained, โ€œAfter he was pulled over, he got into a verbal altercation with police. The officer chose to place Hill in handcuffs. He was cited and released after the situation was deescalated.โ€

As videos of the arrest began circulating online, the Miami Dolphins released a statement on X confirming both the incident and Hillโ€™s playing status. The statement read, โ€œHe has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived at the stadium and will be available for todayโ€™s game.โ€

Though Hill was released by the Miami-Dade County Police, Department Director Stephanie V. Daniels stated in a release on X that there would be an โ€œimmediate review of all details surrounding the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage.โ€

In a sideline interview with CBS Sports, which he also shared on his Instagram, Hill said, โ€œAt the end of the day, dog, I got a job to do, and my job is to come inside this stadium and be great, dog.โ€

He added in a post-game interview that he was unsure why he was detained.ย โ€œI wasnโ€™t disrespectful because my mom didnโ€™t raise me that way. Didnโ€™t cuss. Didnโ€™t do none of that. Like I said, Iโ€™m still trying to figure it out,โ€ he shared.ย

He continued,โ€œWhat if I wasnโ€™t Tyreek Hill? Lord knows what that guy or guys would have done. I was just making sure that I was doing what my uncle always told me to do whenever youโ€™re in a situation like that: โ€˜Just listen, put your hands on the steering wheel and just listenโ€™.โ€

Despite a rough start to his morning, Hill excelled on the field, gaining a total of 130 receiving yards, 7 receptions, and an 80-yard touchdown.
