Tony Ferguson is kicking off 2025 in style and pure fight-minded zeal. Ferguson recently fanned the flames of a return hinting at a fight booked. Now, to that end, he’s getting in the smacking middle of his peers and former enemies. Namely – Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.
Earlier this week, Khabib Nurmagomedov stormed the internet when he promoted the upcoming PFL ‘Road to Dubai’ card of January. Despite the lengthy history with Conor McGregor, ‘Eagle’ stirred the pot, aiming for the talent pool of Irish MMA. Other UFC/MMA stars have also gotten into the mix, reacting to the Ireland-Dagestan comparison commentary. Now, Nurmagomedov gets an answer from “El Cucuy” as well.
The Team Snap Down City Academy fighter recently set the record for most consecutive losses in company history. Ferguson (25-11 MMA, 15-9 UFC) suffered a UFC-record eighth-straight vs. Michael Chiesa this past August at UFC on ABC 7. But that hardly dampens the usual Ferguson zeal. He even spiraled back to the Nurmagomedov feud soon after.

He and Khabib Nurmagomedov were matched up for five instances. The last blow came when the Dagestani had to withdraw against Ferguson at the TUF: Season 22 Finale. Even Khabib lamented it, on the ‘Inspire Me’ Podcast – EP 9. Conor McGregor is yet another name he has dissed in the past for not signing on the dotted line. Even at this stage, the fight would leave him behind, but Ferguson never leaves the fight.
Tony Ferguson dazzles with new fight tease for 2025
UFC veteran Tony Ferguson has reiterated he is too old to retire just yet. As odd as that read, the one saying keeps an odd-spirited gusto about him. After UFC on ABC 7, Ferguson left an open-ended retirement note. He left one glove in the middle of the octagon with hopes of making it back. But soon, he walked back his thoughts.
UFC CEO Dana White urged him to call it quits, and many times now. Ferguson also faced a loss to top Scouser and brand fighter Paddy Pimblett before this. However, despite his struggles, the former interim lightweight refuses the notion. Now, Ferguson is teasing a comeback again.
Ferguson once had one of the longest winning streaks in company history when he won 12 straight fights. That too en route to becoming the interim UFC lightweight champion. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s largest-selling pay-per-view in UFC competition, his Best ESPYs, and accolades; Ferguson could have been a part of it if not for the extensive injuries. ”El Cucuy” dismantling, battering, and then choking out Edson Barboza is a rent-free brawl that lives on with the fight clique.
Tony Ferguson is truly an industry great and means to get back to it. Could Ferguson be talking about the Global Fight League when the Octagon is no longer his home? The GFL has signed several big names in MMA. Including Paige VanZant, Luke Rockhold, Alexander Gustafsson, Tyron Woodley, Anthony Pettis, Wanderlei Silva and Fabricio Werdum.
