The clip saw Pereira exchanging punches with his sparring partner in what seemed like a regular training session. However, the situation quickly escalated, and the light-heavyweight champion was seen throwing hard punches at his sparring partner while smoothly backing up and dodging his. ‘Poatan’ shared the image of him and the now bloodied sparring partner on Instagram.
It is important to remember that Pereira previously had a successful career in kickboxing. He was a former Glory kickboxing champion and boasted 21 knockouts in his professional kickboxing record. In the UFC, he captured the middleweight title and then transitioned to light-heavyweight to quickly become the champion.
‘Poatan’ recently defended his UFC title against former champion Jamahal Hill at UFC 300. He finished the fight in just one round. Pereira then wanted to move up to the heavyweight division and take on Tom Aspinall at UFC 301 which was just a few weeks from UFC 300. However, a toe injury prevented this from happening and Pereira is currently going through recovery.
