UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman was at UFC 300, where he wrapped the BMF belt around Max Holloway. Coleman got the opportunity after Holloway insisted on it after the Hall of Famer almost died saving his parent from a housefire. Coleman was a recent guest on Rampage Jackson‘s JAXXON podcast, where he recalled the horrifying incident that caused the death of his dog, Hammer.

The UFC Hall of Famer was at his parents’ house by accident. He had visited his parents, but his car broke down, and he decided to stay with them. Hammer was also with him. Coleman didn’t at first realize the house was on fire after the dog woke him. However, he suffered severe burns when he touched the doorknob of the kitchen. Coleman revealed what he did afterward to Bear Degedio and Rampage Jackson.

I realized it’s a f*cking fire. It’s big and it’s all over inside the house. So, right then, I just turned around and ran back to my mom and dad’s bedroom. I’m yelling, ‘Mom, Dad! Mom, Dad!’ It’s like 4:00 a.m., and they’re thinking I’m doing an Instagram video. Hammer house for life…’Mom! Dad!’ They didn’t answer. They didn’t answer five times, and it was just a sick, sick feeling. I thought they were dead already. Then finally, my mom said, ‘What?’ I said, ‘Get up! Get up! The house is on fire! We got to go fast! We got to move fast! Let’s go’ They got up in their underwear.

Coleman saved his parents but went in for the dog but couldn’t find him. Moreover, he had inhaled a dangerous amount of smoke and had to be taken to the hospital via ambulance. The UFC Hall of Famer revealed he was close to death, but God pulled him through it.

When he pulled through the injury, he first asked about Hammer. He felt sadness when he heard about his beloved pet’s death. Coleman had named him Hammer, which was his nickname in the UFC. Now, Coleman has a new dog named after his deceased pet.

After news broke of Mark Coleman’s bravery, Max Holloway suggested Coleman wrap the BMF belt for the victor, citing the UFC Hall of Famer as the ‘real BMF.’ Justin Gaethje, Holloway’s opponent, also agreed, citing his disinterest in having ex-BMF champion Jorge Masvidal do it. UFC CEO Dana White agreed with the idea at the pre-fight press conference.

On the JAXXON podcast, Coleman revealed his gratitude for the UFC and the fans. He also revealed he never thought he had so many fans before he arrived at UFC 300 with his daughters. Also on the podcast, he revealed he now has a new dog whom he named King Martello. The word Martello is the Portuguese word for the English term Hammer.

Nonetheless, Coleman revealed that in the eleven months Hammer lived, he was like a king. Interestingly, Jackson also once had a pet dog. Moreover, Rampage also revealed the last time he cried was when the dog died. Coleman also revealed that his daughter was much closer to Hammer than him and still cried thinking of the dog.
