There are very few fighters in MMA who donโt believe in god. Almost all the elite fighters in the sport are often ardent followers of Christianity or Islam. UFC 301 star Mauricio Ruffy is one such fighter. Ruffy credited his bonus-winning victory over Jamie Mullarkey to the power of Jesus Christ.
Ruffy showed up at UFC 301 like a vintage Conor McGregor and knocked out Mullarkey in the first round. In his octagon interview, he called out Islam Makhachev, the UFC lightweight champion and the pound-for-pound king. Nevertheless, everything good that happened in his personal and professional life is the work of Jesus, according to Ruffy.
Three years ago, I went through really bad moments. I had several injuries which really made me wonder if this was the right career that I should follow…but then I found Jesus [Christ] and he overturned my life. He cured my wife from not being able to get pregnant and I just thank him every day now. He really changed my life.

Ruffy is not the only UFC lightweight who showers praise on Christ. 6th ranked Beneil Dariush is an ardent believer of Christ. As such, he had boldly praised Christ in UAE, after he defeated Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 280.
Ruffyโs fighting style resembles that of a prime Conor McGregor. Like Ruffy, McGregor is also an ardent believer in Christ. McGregor has even credited his Catholic beliefs as an important part of his success and an integral part of his life.
UFC CEO Dana White showers praise on Mauricio Ruffy
Dana White was not in Rio, but UFC CBO Hunter Campbell was. Nonetheless, Ruffyโs flawless performance caught the attention of the UFC CEO. It did not take White to show his admiration of the fighter via his official social media.
Ruffyโs fight was the featured matchup of the early prelims. First and foremost, White is a devout fight fan. As such, he watched the event from the first fight to the last. Nonetheless, nobody who fought at UFC 301 received the type of praise Ruffy got from White.
This guy is an absolute BEAST! One of the best @ufc debuts of all time time by Mauricio Ruffy! #NowYouKnow

With his impressive debut, Ruffy has a bright future ahead. The UFC has recently fast-tracked exciting prospects in fight night main events or fights against ranked veterans. As such, it wonโt be unsurprising to see him in a Fight Night main event in the coming months.
