Jon Jones captivated the hearts of MMA enthusiasts across the globe with a masterful display of striking, grappling, and wrestling. As such, many consider him to be the greatest MMA fighter of all time, including Joe Rogan. In one of the recent episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience, a guest compared Jones to NBA legend Michael Jordan.

It was comedian Dan Soder who made the comparison. Soder’s first live appearance at a UFC event was at UFC 159, where Jones fought Chael Sonnen. Soder saw firsthand how Jones easily dismantled Sonnen and came to the conclusion. Nonetheless, this is what Soder said bout Jones.

He would be the (Michael) Jordan of fighting…he’s the greatest and you can’t even argue it, you can argue who comes close to him.

Rogan is one of Jones’ biggest fans. Even though Jones had troubles outside the octagon, Rogan still considered him one of the best. UFC CEO Dana White even stated that he was the greatest of all time. White stated it in multiple interviews and recently in his appearance on Julian Edelman‘s podcast.

Jones was on a three-year hiatus before he made his comeback at UFC 285 where he won the heavyweight title. The UFC had scheduled Jones’ first title defense against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295, but he suffered an injury.

Jon Jones had an intense rivalry with Chael Sonnen, and the two settled it inside the octagon at UFC 159. Joe Rogan was in the commentary booth for UFC 159, where Jones easily defeated Sonnen in the first round. The rivalry began after Jones refused to face Sonnen on short notice at UFC 151 for the injured Dan Henderson.

Jones did not take the fight at the behest of his coach, and Dana White was very angry about it. Nonetheless, at UFC 159, Jones broke his toe but did not recognize it as he only realized it after Joe Rogan pointed to it in the octagon interview. Rogan talked about it in his recent podcast episode featuring Dan Soder. Rogan stated that Jones was so deadset on destroying Sonnen that he broke his toe.

The fight against Jones was Sonnen’s consecutive loss in UFC title fights, as his previous fight was a loss to Anderson Silva, the then-middleweight champion. Sonnen and Jones have reconciled since and recently interacted in Riyadh at PFL vs Bellator PPV. Jones was a surprise guest at the event, and Sonnen was on the PFL’s broadcast team.
