This year’s NBA All-Star weekend took place between 16-18 February and was hosted by Indianapolis, Indiana. Every year some of the best NBA players compete against one another to win the All-Star game. This year the NBA brought back the East vs. West format.

Hence, the Boston Celtics teammates Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown played together in Team East. During the game, Tatum asked the Team East head coach Doc Rivers to give his playing minutes to teammate Jaylen Brown. Tatum reportedly said he wanted Brown to win the All-Star MVP award. Tatum had won the award last year.

Despite playing similar minutes, Brown had 36 points to Tatum’s 20. Brown also scored the second most points on the team. Team East ended up winning the game as 211-186. Team East also became the first team in an NBA All-Star game to score more than 200 points.

By the difference of a few points, Brown lost the award to the Milwaukee Bucks’ Damian Lillard. The guard was a starter for the team, unlike Brown. Lillard was certainly the star of the weekend, as he also won the NBA three-point contest for the second time in a row.
