Michel Pereira may just be the next exciting fighter on the UFC roster. He scored an incredible submission victory at UFC 301 that went viral on social media. And Pereira did not shy away from it. But instead, he accepted it at the post-fight press conference and addressed himself as the UFC showman.

Michel Pereira recently addressed his risky move in the octagon at UFC 301 at the post-fight press conference. Pereira did a back flip over his opponent Ihor Potieria and later choked him out to win the fight. Talking about it, Michel Pereira said:

It’s my fighting style, it’s what I do. And that’s the risk. But I’m the risk taker, that’s why I’ve been getting the performance that I’ve been getting. That’s why I’m the UFC showman. I’m always on the edge of the risks.

Pereira landed the backflip with a knee to the head which technically is illegal. Fighters are not supposed to kick opponents on the head if they are on the ground. However, Pereira was awarded the win nonetheless. Right after getting up, Pereira caught Potieria in a standing guillotine choke and it was over for Potiera.

The fight did not even last a full minute. This marked Pereira’s tenth consecutive win in the UFC and third consecutive first-round finishes. With over 40 fights of professional experience and just eleven in the UFC, it will be interesting to see what else Pereira does in his upcoming fights.

A lot of people expressed their appreciation for Pereira’s under-a-minute win. However, others were furious that Pereira got away with an apparent foul. However, the UFC officials were more than happy to offer Pereira a $50,000 bonus. This reportedly is his fourth bonus in a row.

Michel Pereira still has a long way to go in the UFC. Even after eight back-to-back wins he still has to break through into the UFC divisional rankings. Pereira has already fought twice this year. It will be interesting to see if he enters the octagon again in the second half of 2024.
