Joaquin Buckley had an incredible night at UFC Tampa as he defeated former title contender Colby Covington. Buckley put on a clinical performance and was able to subdue the ‘Chaos’ with ease. After the win, the fighter immediately called out his next opponent and it was none other than former champion Kamaru Usman.
Joaquin Buckley is eager to get his hands on the ultimate prize and fight for the welterweight championship. In order to do that, winning against someone like Kamaru Usman seems like a great plan. After all, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ remains ranked in the top half of the rankings. Ahead of the potential clash, Buckley isn’t scared of Usman’s massive experience.
According to Buckley, Usman isn’t as hungry as he was a few years back. He stated that new fighters in the division are more willing to put everything on the line and finish fights. The message was clear and loud towards Usman, who had previously dominated the division for many years.

The former champion had previously talked about being the boogeyman of the UFC welterweight division and being on a sabbatical. Moreover, he was ready to get back into action as soon as possible. With his last few losses, for Usman, the next fight is quite important and it seems like he’s ready for it.
Kamaru Usman replies to Joaquin Buckley’s call-out
Kamaru Usman became the welterweight champion back in 2019 by defeating Tyron Woodley. After that, he defended the title five times against top fighters such as Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns. He was looking unstoppable until Usman met Leon Edwards and got knocked out at UFC 278.
The Nigerian Nightmare failed to make a comeback in 2024, and this has raised questions about his future in the UFC. But it’s safe to say that the fighter hasn’t lost his motivation. Usman took Joaquin Buckley’s call-out in a positive manner and had a strong statement.
In his last fight against Khamzat Chimaev, Usman stopped in as a last-minute substitute and put on a great performance. He went to the distance against the ‘Borz’ and did well in every round. Usman has always been an entertaining fighter and fans are excited to see him back inside the octagon once again.
