After an unsuccessful Saturday Qualifying, Ferrari are back to their troubled ways. Sky Sports Formula One pundit Ted Kravitz expressed his concerns over the Italian teamโs results for the rest of the season if they cannot turn their advantage into a podium place. Last year Ferrari dominated Red Bull in terms of performances and management. But they dropped off in the second half of the season and they have yet to recover from it in 2023.
Ferrari have lost the shine they had had in 2022 and now they are visibly struggling with only one podium out of seven races held this season, and a tough competition from Fernando Alonsoโs Aston Martin and Mercedesโs W14 with new sidepods. In Montreal last year, Max Verstappen won the race, with Carlos Sainz coming in second place by less than a second. And compared to most other locations so far this year, the track looks to better fit their car.
Given those elements, Sky Sports pundit Kravitz believes this Sundayโs outcome might have a major impact on the rest of Ferrariโs season. โI think a podium finish this weekend is a must for Ferrari,โ he remarked. โI think people at Ferrari will start to sweat as to where exactly this season is going if they donโt get a podium, if they let Fernando Alonso get back in with his podium habit or Mercedes get back in with a podium, following up the ones that they showed in Spain,โ he said.

Ferrariโs season on the line, says Kravitz
Red Bull are the favorites again this weekend to win in Montreal, and will take at least one podium and potentially two if Sergio Perez stays out of trouble. With Alonso starting in P2 and both Mercedes at P3 and P4 this might make Ferrariโs life a lot more tough if they were to achieve anything significant from the race. Charles Leclerc was unable to qualify for Q3 as a result of Ferrari making a bad tyre strategy decision in the wet. Carlos Sainz also had a grid penalty hanging over him following a collision with Pierre Gasly, despite qualifying P8.
When asked, Red Bull team-boss Christian Horner and Sporting Advisor Helmut Marko believe Ferrari is the most probable opponent to challenge them. Horner said: โI think Ferrari. Their car here looks competitive. I think Aston Martin looked like they were there or thereabouts in that session . I think Mercedes looked like they struggled to generate tyre temperature, so it does seem to be moving from circuit to circuit.โ Ferrari are a shadow of the glory they once used to be and they will have to prove a point or two in the Canadian Grand Prix as this track puts the Italian Outfit on an advantage. It is to be observed if they can count on themselves and get their acts right this time.
