There has been a lot of buzz going around about a potential Rajinikanth and Mani Ratnam collaboration after a long break. But Suhasini Maniratnam decided to set the record straight and address these rumors head-on.
In a recent interview with News18, Suhasini playfully commented on the rumors, saying, โI doubt even Rajinikanth and Mani are aware of it. It’s just people speculating about it.โ
For those who may not know, there were whispers in the grapevine about Rajinikanth and the renowned director teaming up for a movie after 33 years since their last joint venture, Thalapathi. Talks of possible scripts were in the air, but it seems like these rumors have been put to rest, much to the dismay of movie buffs.
Their previous collaboration, Thalapathi, delved into the tale of Surya, an orphan with a kind heart living in the slums, and his bond with a principled gangster named Deva. The film drew inspiration from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, focusing on the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana.
As their friendship faces challenges amidst a clash with the district collector, Surya finds himself torn between loyalty to his friend and his family obligations, leading to a heartfelt inner conflict.
Apart from Rajinikanth, Thalapathi also featured powerhouse performances from Mammootty and Arvind Swamy. The ensemble cast included Jaishankar, Amrish Puri, Srividya, Bhanupriya, Shobana, Geetha, and many others. Interestingly, this movie marked the final collaboration between Ratnam and Ilaiyaraaja, as the director later teamed up with AR Rahman.
Currently, Mani Ratnam is immersed in the post-production of his upcoming film Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR. The anticipation for the reunion of these legendary actors, last seen together in Nayakan, is sky-high. The movie also features a stellar cast, including Trisha Krishnan, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Ashok Selvan, Pankaj Tripathi, Nassar, and more.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth recently graced the screen in Vettaiyan and is gearing up for his next project, Coolie, with director Lokesh Kanagaraj.
