Draymond Green‘s hostile reputation on the basketball floor has started to become a problem for the team in crucial times. During the game between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings, the four-time champion attempted to set the screen for teammate Stephen Curry while sending Kings’ Keon Ellis to the floor. Ellis tried the play the foul and stayed down as he did not get a whistle which left Steve Kerr furious.
The Warriors’ head coach immediately showed his frustration as he called out Keon Ellis for ‘flopping’ as well as exchanged words with the Kings’ new HC Doug Christie. Christie also seemed upset and tried to support his side and rushed to help Ellis up. However, Steve Kerr‘s aggressive reaction resulted in a technical foul for the team. But that did not stop the veteran from putting his point across as he had to be held back by the assistant coaches.
Kerr’s behavior might seem exaggerated in the moment but the referees’ recent calls on Draymond Green may have led to this reaction. Not even a day ago, Green received a tech for yelling ‘Boom!’ after hitting a three-pointer. This has been the case for the better part of this season. As Green is a critical part of the team and is essential for winning, Kerr’s reaction was only natural.
After a great team win in the previous game, the Warriors were not in a good position against the Kings. During this play in the third quarter, the team was down 93-67, which may have been the reason for Kerr’s frustration in the first place. However, his reaction did not help as the opposing team was awarded a technical free throw.
Steph Curry was delighted to see Steve Kerr and Doug Christie’s altercation
The give and take between the two coaches interrupted Stephen Curry‘s play as well as the called foul. A shooting foul was already called on Malik Monk, but the technical foul resulted in the Kings gaining one point before Curry could get to the line. Despite being caught in the moment, the sharpshooter was not fazed at all.
Considering the huge loss for the Warriors, the moment became a hot topic. In the press conference after the game, Curry was asked about his reaction to the incident but the superstar gave an unexpected reaction. Rather than showing disappointment, the 36-year-old was happy to see both coaches showing passion on the court.
Looking at the situation positively, Curry also gave his everything after being absent from the previous one. The star scored 20 points in the first half alone despite his team being down marginally. The team is in desperate need of consistent wins as the Warriors’ 9th position in the West will continue to create problems for them.
