Today was the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States. Usually, the country pauses what they do to catch a glimpse of the occasion. A situation proud Democrat and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr never wanted to happen.

The game was against the reigning champion Boston Celtics. Their previous two wins suggested the team were trying to get back on track after an abysmal December. A 5-4 record saw them hold a winning record in over a month and suggested the Golden State Warriors were starting to get it right.

The game was also on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, making it significant for the black American population who make up the bulk of the league. With Trump’s inauguration on the same day, reporters at the pre-game press conference asked Steve Kerr if he had seen the occasion.

I didn’t watch the inauguration. I chose to watch Celtics tape.

The reporters gathered broke into a chuckle as they knew all too well that Kerr might not want to watch the inauguration. After all, he had proudly endorsed Trump’s opponent Kamala Harris in her Presidential campaign.

He was not too happy after Donald Trump won by a considerable margin. Considering his past back-and-forth’s with players and coaches in the NBA, Kerr along with many would not be happy. However, what transpired after that interview is what brought Kerr’s words into focus.

A couple of hours later, Kerr’s Warriors were handed an embarrassing 40-point loss at the hands of the Boston Celtics. It marked the worst home loss in Steve Kerr’s era. The game also brought up questions about the Warriors’ ability to go up against good to great teams.

Fans watching the game saw how Steve Kerr could not bring the best out his squad. Admittedly, the team were without a few important players. But other coaches have managed to rile their respective teams in the face of adversity. The Warriors did not do that, and leading superstar Steph Curry cut a dejected figure.

Fans took to social media to thrash the Olympic gold medal winning coach. His comments did not age well, and fans took the opportunity to troll him. Check out examples of those comments below.

The Golden State Warriors are in a mess leading some to suggest the franchise starts fresh. However, that could take time as the team needs to first see which players to keep. For that to happen, Steve Kerr has to do his part in bringing the best out his current squad. Instead, they looked far from being good enough.
