Insomniac Games is developing an upcoming action-adventure game called Spider-Man 2, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man game series. The game is a sequel to Spider-Man – Miles Morales and will feature Peter Parker and Miles Morales as protagonists with distinct skill sets.
Sony unveiled the Spider-Man 2 gameplay at its PlayStation Showcase event, revealing that the characters will have separate skill trees, allowing players to choose abilities for each character. Additionally, players can select abilities that benefit both characters. Peter Parker’s new Symbiote abilities and Miles Morales’ bioelectric powers are unique to each character, meaning skill trees have been developed for each. However, since both characters share technology and train together, the game also features a shared skill tree enabling players to support both characters simultaneously.
The individual skill trees allow players more control over each character’s progress. This means each player’s game experience will differ depending on their chosen skill tree. In its predecessors, such as the original Spider-Man and Spider-Man – Miles Morales, there was no distinction between the characters, with only one skill tree for all. With the ability to switch between both characters during the game, Insomniac Games has chosen to make upgrades less complicated in Spider-Man 2 with separate skill trees.
The PlayStation event showed an adrenaline-fueled trailer of Spider-Man 2 with Peter Parker and Miles Morales fighting bad guys. The trailer’s specific details about the skill trees will add to the player’s excitement. Unfortunately, Sony has not yet announced the game’s release date, though it is expected to launch in fall 2023, as revealed in the blog post for the gameplay reveal.
