Renato Moicano opens up about the 'deceptive' fighting style of Brian Ortega ahead of UFC 303

Brain Ortega came in on short notice to face Diego Lopes at the upcoming blockbuster event UFC 303. Ortega is a fan favorite heading into the battle, and he and Lopes are expected to go to war. However, Ortega’s former opponent, Renato Moicano has provided some valuable insights into Ortega’s technique.

Renato Moicano recently shared a video on his YouTube channel where he broke down the UFC 303 fight card. Talking about the co-main event, Moicano revealed that Ortega’s approach against Lopes might be very tricky. According to the Brazilian, ‘T-City’ has a weird fighting tempo.

Even though sometimes he’s getting beat on a fight he always finds a way to win…Sometimes he’s kind of slow in the beginning and then he starts to pick it up. His jiu-jitsu is very dangerous.

Moicano also talked about his fight with Ortega in 2017. According to the fighter, the fight was going well for him until Ortega caught Moicano with a nasty guillotine. Ortega is well known for his guillotines and Lopes will have to be careful about it. Not everyone can pull off an outrageous escape like Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 266.

On the other hand, Diego Lopes is excited about his fight chances against Ortega. The Brazilian is currently on a three-fight win streak and would like to continue it. As a BJJ black belt himself, Lopes has challenged Ortega to recognize the better BJJ specialist in the division.

Brian Ortega is looking in top shape and has gone viral for discovering a weird way to train. The fighter was recently observed using tape on his mouth. According to the fighter, it helps him to mellow down during training. Ortega has eight submission victories in his professional career but doesn’t think he has to prove his BJJ skills against Lopes in an MMA fight.

Brian Ortega recently did an interview with the MMA Junkie where he addressed Diego Lopes’ challenge. According to Ortega, it doesn’t make sense as it is not a grappling matchup. Ortega is focused on getting his hands raised at UFC 303 and doesn’t care about the process.

At the end of the day, it’s a fight. It’s not a grappling match. If we did a tournament, then we can see who has better jiu-jitsu. Maybe who can use jiu-jitsu better in an MMA fight, that’s something different. But I wouldn’t go as far as saying this determines who has better jiu-jitsu

Ortega isn’t interested in a grappling match with Lopes. He might accept Alexander Volkanovski’s challenge for a possible grappling rematch. Nonetheless, UFC 303 could be Ortega’s final battle in the UFC featherweight class, as the fighter has decided to move up to 155 pounds.
