I Hope the UFC Gives Muhammad Mokaev a Chanceโ€ฆ

Former UFC flyweight contender Muhammad Mokaev has not had the best year so far. The fighter cannot help but be involved in some kind of viral incident. Sadly, that now includes a roadside crash accident in Dagestan as well! Seemingly, Mokaev and his friend narrowly escaped any major injuries. Details on the matter are still pouring in.

Multiple Russian media reports that flyweight Muhammad Mokaev was involved in a rash accident. Mokaev was reportedly at the wheel of his Mercedes-AMG A 35 AMG. His car crashed and went off the road. Reports mention that the left wing and wheel and the windshield were damaged. The rear part was also dented. Red Corner MMA (@RedCorner_MMA) reported the matter online; MASH reported it first.

Witnesses pulled โ€˜Punisherโ€™ out of the car, and he asked them not to take pictures of him. The 23-year-old has been on hard times recently; some say it is due to his own making. Top brass opted not to re-sign Mokaev (13-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) after his contract ended at the UFC 304 PPV event in July. Before that, the Dagestan-born fighter had quite a few squabbles and run-ins as well.

Before fighting Manel Kape at UFC 304, the duo had a catastrophic approach to settle their rivalry. Ahead of his impending comeback to the Octagon, Mokaev also made scary allegations that #3 ranked contender Amir Albazi pointed a gun at him in heated interactions. Top it off, now comes the Mokaev accident. However, those passing by reported he got off scratch-free without major repercussions.

Whatโ€™s next for Muhammad Mokaev once he recovers?

Reports and preliminary on-site photographs are still flooding in. Meanwhile, Muhammad Mokaev has requested to keep the accident hush-hush from the mediaโ€™s eyes. Itโ€™s a given that the flyweight out of England will probably take some time out after his narrow yet harrowing escape. This begs the question โ€“ what comes next?

Undefeated Mokaev finds himself in a rare position despite being a prime talent. The reasoning behind the UFCโ€™s decision is still not clear. CEO Dana White continues to cite โ€œbackroomโ€ issues rather than Mokaevโ€™s lack of fighting style. White mentioned his troublesome attitude and poor conduct towards UFC staff may have played a part.

Mokaev denied reports that he had prematurely negotiated a contract with the PFL in the immediate aftermath. Soon afterward, PFL President Ray Sefo claimed no interest in the 24-year-old. However, PFL CEO Peter Murray disagrees.

I do think the Flyweight category is something we will be getting into in the future, โ€ฆI know our guys are looking at it. Muhammad Mokaevโ€ฆThis kid has the second-longest winning streak in UFC Flyweight history. He was 23-0 as an amateur. When I look at a kid like that, thatโ€™s an opportunity. Whether itโ€™s Muhammad coming into the PFL system in one of our franchises, whether that be the global season or Bellator, and others like him โ€” I think itโ€™s a real opportunity.
Peter Murray in an exclusive interview with Sherdog.com

Mokeav will definitely need to take some time, depending on the extent or lack of his injuries. Despite the highly-publicized departure, he recently teased signing on a new contract somewhere. As such, heโ€™ll remain a hot topic now.
