Dustin Poirier has never won an undisputed title in the UFC. Nonetheless, he is probably in the top 5 in the list of greatest UFC lightweights. In addition to his fighting career, Poirier actively supports the community with his charitable endeavor, The Good Fight Foundation.

Poirier auctions his fighting kit through the foundation, with the proceeds going into charity. Poireir’s wife, Jolie, is an active part of the foundation. In a recent interview on the Fight Bananas Show, the former interim lightweight champion revealed the story behind the creation of the charitable foundation.

A police officer got killed in line of duty a couple of blocks away from where my wife graduated high school. And he left behind a family, and, you know, it just struck home because it was so, I was living out here at the time. I was kind of disconnected from Lafayette, Louisiana, and it happened, like, on the streets that I walked when I was a kid. So whenever I heard about that, I decided to auction off the Eddie Alvarez fight-worn stuff and donate it to his family.

At the time, Poirier had not created the organization. He had done charitable endeavors in Lafayette but was not under a banner. After he auctioned the kit after the fight with Eddie Alvarez, his charitable endeavor grew exponentially and he eventually named it ‘The Good Fight Foundation.’

The proceedings of the auctioning through the Good Fight Foundation directly go to not-for-profit organizations and food banks in the community. Several UFC fighters have donated to the foundation. Khabib Nurmagomedov donated $100,000 to the foundation after he defeated Poirier at UFC 242.
