Devin Booker WILL Be The Suns Leader in 2024, Book It

Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns team were expected to make a strong run for the championship last season. A player as talented as Booker should not suffer a first-round sweep in the playoffs. Sacrifices were made while creating the Big Three of Book, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. The results were disappointing, to say the least.

Unfortunately, it all came to nothing, as they have failed to make it to the NBA Finals since 2021. This has captured much scrutiny from experts. Charles Barkley, a former Suns player, spoke with Bill Simmons recently. During his conversation, the NBA legend shared how he challenged Booker and accused the Suns’ roster of lacking leaders.

I challenged Booker last year… said the Suns don’t have any leadership… said it’s gotta be Booker… People are going to listen to him because he’s a great player, but he’s got to become more of a leader. Gotta be more of a vocal leader.
Charles Barkey said on the Bills Simmons podcast

Devin Booker is one of the long-serving players on the Suns roster. As such, Charles Barkley expects him to assume the team’s leadership role. In the past, Kevin Durant has faced allegations of not being a leader. Hence, the next best player, Booker, might have to take over on that front.

Notwithstanding, the Suns must aim to correct last season’s mistakes as they were swept by Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves. As for Booker, his last season averages of 27.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.9 assists prove that he can lead the Suns’ to challenge in the West.

Kevin Garnett shows support for Devin Booker

Everyone has something to say about Devin Booker, the unsung hero at the Olympics for the all-conquering Team USA. He has won gold twice with the national team and has yet to taste any success with his beloved Phoenix Suns. A player of Booker’s caliber is expected to contend for an NBA title.

NBA legend Kevin Garnett thinks differently as he believes the guard is ready to one day become the league’s MVP. This is a bold statement from Garnett but not a misleading one. It is because Booker has been one of the most consistent guards in the league and, at 27, is entering his prime years.

Devin Booker can be an MVP, you know what I’m saying? Beal, he can be an MVP. These guys, they got it, bro.
Kevin Garnett said on KG Certified

Booker will compete in his tenth season as a professional. Leading his team to a top finish could ensure Booker is a legitimate MVP candidate. Surely, the upcoming season remains important to the Suns franchise after spending multiple picks to secure a Big Three. The team has potential but injury concerns remain. As such, it remains to be seen what impact Booker will have going forward.
