Due to Jimmy Butler‘s open request for a trade away from the Miami Heat, the team is now having its worst season in the previous five years. Heat President Pat Riley and Butler’s relationship has soured, with Riley criticizing Butler several times recently. At the back of these instances, Riley also opened up on his rivals, the Boston Celtics’ rise in a recent podcast appearance.

When Riley was on Dan Le Batard‘s show, the presenter openly asked him what he thought about Heat supporters calling him “washed” because the Boston Celtics are now a consistent competitor. Riley had an honest response towards the Heat fans. The former NBA coach stated that he had ‘his a** kicked’ multiple times against them.

Whoever’s saying that I haven’t read it because I’m not on any social media site. Not one. And, I don’t care. I’ve had my a** kicked by the Celtics enough when I was coaching and they’re a great team. They put together a great organization, a great team, and they’ve broken all records financially, so they’ve committed themselves.

Riley also talked extensively about the increasing cultural gap he sees between himself and contemporary NBA players. This is due to them playing the game very differently than Riley accomplished as a player, coach, and now president. By adamantly reminding players that they do have a duty to the team they play for as long as they are under contract, he appeared to be taking a jab at the agitated Jimmy Butler.

These shots and jabs won’t make the Butler matter any good and would only add more fuel to the already worsened situation. Many pundits speculate that Jimmy Butler would be leaving the Heat for good in the upcoming weeks during the trade market. All eyes will shift towards which teams will sign the Heat star and acquire his services for the next stages of his career.

NBA Hall of Famer backs Pat Riley over Jimmy Butler in trade drama

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley often provides his takes on various matters surrounding the NBA. He did the same with the recent Miami Heat-Jimmy Butler trade drama while speaking to Arizona Sports in a recent interview. Barkley seemed to back Heat President Pat Riley’s stance on this situation regarding a possible trade.

He’s messing with the wrong guy. Pat Riley let Dwyane Wade go. The thing that bothers me about the Jimmy- Jimmy’s making $50 million this year and next year. So, the Miami Heat have been great to him.

Charles Barkley said

After a game against the Indiana Pacers, Butler claimed that he no longer enjoys playing basketball. He expressed his desire to rediscover this happiness, whether it be at South Beach or somewhere else.

In addition, Riley just won’t do this for someone in his mid-30s, and Butler is speculatively looking for an extension rather than exercising his player option for next year.
