Ian Machado Garry has been on one hot streak in the UFC 170-pound division. Win after win, the rising star is quite the reckoning. However, his interpersonal relations had him in some deep waters. While on the rise, โThe Futureโ came under further scrutiny last year due to his wife Layla Anna-Lee. All thanks to martial arts content creator, โThe MMA Guruโ. Now, he has again wound down on his thoughts over Garry.
Last November, โThe MMA Guruโ revealed that Layla Anna-Lee Machado had written a book about how women can become WAGs. The satirical piece was to be a dig at modern-day WAGs (i.e., wives and girlfriends) of sports celebrities. But it was taken to be that the 40-something-year-old wife of the UFC rising welterweight contender instigated women to be gold diggers. The distasteful commentary continues, with MMA Guru doubling down on her manipulation.
Oh my god its a full video. Ian Garry’s wife really made sure the world got to see this one…that creepy unsure smile…Had him singing and dancing for her to let him back in the house, WHY did she need to show the whole world this video…humiliating poor Ian.

MMA community Twitter lost its mind when โThe MMA Guruโ revealed that the couple lived with her ex-husband โ Garryโs MMA nutritionist. Unhinged loud-mouth fighter Sean Strickland picked up on it and fanned the flames of the unchecked rumor. It also came to be that โMachadoโ was her maiden name that the husbands have used over time (an Irish tradition of old). โBad Guyโ Chael Sonnen first talked of it on his YouTube channel. However, the fanbase/accusers did not care.
Soon, Layla Anna-Lee had to double down on the details and even took the barbs to MMA Guru. However, the damage had been done. Now, โThe MMA Guruโ goes into the distinct tall tale that Anna-Lee is shrewdly narrative over an IG reel of Garry coaxing her with flowers and singing. As weird as it all sounds, there are other victims here.
Chris Curtis became a victim, defending Ian Garry
Layla Anna-Leeโs 2010 satirical publicationย How to be a WAGย garnered much flak for being the apparent guide to gold diggers. Strickland, Colby Covington, Kevin Holland, and obviously โThe MMA Guruโ went on a pointless but relentless pursuit to prove that. Strickland evenย insinuated a victim statusย on Garry of celebrity ensnaring by his wife. While โChaosโ had some colorful sexual innuendos for her during UFC 296 pay-per-view media day.
Anna-Leeโs ex-husband,ย Richard Cullen, a performance nutritionist for Garry and co-creator of Layla Ltd, coveredย UFC 5RYย on UFC FightPass. Ian Garry and his wife did not in fact live with him, but for the sake of their children, the Irishman kept up a close acquaintance. Layla, who had Harvard certification in contract lawย from five years prior, even threatened to sue for slander. While all this was on, Stricklandโs old friend Chris Curtis defended Garry from โcu*kโ blame even without knowing the full details.
Yโall need to chill with the Ian Garry thing, …Man has a life that is unconventional to you all but itโs his life and it works for him. People are giving his wife sh*t for a book she wrote 12 years ago. Ian is a grown man and you are a fool if you donโt think they havenโt.
Chris Curtis in a since-deleted tweet (@Actionman153)
Unfortunately, his tweeting backfired and Curtis became the target of harassment, including from Strickland himself. Curtis eventually deactivated his Twitter account.
While on the mends, Curtis has currently even had a fallout with Strickland for other reasons. Fighters like โTarzanโ and Holland also shifted attention to gibe at Sean OโMalleyย and hisย long-running open relationshipย with his wife,ย Danya Gonzalez as in yet another gold digger.ย All in all, the matter has been one for ages and is far from over.
