Michael Jordan has to be the most celebrated of the seven players in the history of the NBA with 30,000 and more points scored. He achieved this remarkable feat while he was ending his career playing for the Washington Wizards and, ironically, against his former team, the Chicago Bulls.

Furthermore, in reaching the milestone, ‘His Airness’ became the second fastest player to achieve the feat, only behind the legendary Wilt Chamberlain. Also, most fans in the arena were expecting the mark to be achieved with Jordan performing his signature slam dunk or a fadeaway jumper, but it came from an uncharacteristic free throw.

When the feat was achieved, the game was paused and, as he was given a standing ovation by the fans present in the arena; the NBA were preparing an award. The award was a basketball-shaped silver trophy which was presented by the then Washington Wizards owner, Abe Pollin.

The other players who also reached the mark were not celebrated in this same way, either by the league or by their franchises. LeBron James, who last week became the first player to reach the 40,000-point mark, didn’t get the same special treatment.
