Ryan Garcia surprised the world after he beat the odds by defeating Devin Haney on April 20. However, his victory has now come under question after he tested positive in his drug test. Garcia has pleaded his innocence in the midst of this scandal, but fans are still waiting for official confirmation. As such, Chael Sonnen, an MMA legend, believes that Garica caused this problem himself.

The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association took KingRy’s urine samples on April 19 and 20 before his fight. Furthermore, as the same suggests, the organization only indulges in drug tests if the athlete voluntarily steps forward to take them. Ahead of the fight, Garcia was already part of the testing pool, and Sonnen believed that he had no need to conduct another voluntary test.

Early on, there was no way to prove your innocence, which is the very reason you never should have gone into a volunteered drug pool in the first place.

Garcia’s antics ahead of the fight were mostly done for promotion and were planned, which he later revealed. Hence, the UFC Hall of Famer believed that Garcia put himself in this spot by doing yet another public stunt by conducting this test.

He reiterated this point by stating that a voluntary drug test does not increase your credibility but instead can prove to be detrimental at times. This is because he had already proven his innocence through a reputable organization. However, involving another organization was wrong, according to Chael Sonnen.

Currently, the boxing world is at odds and actively debating whether Garcia is innocent. As such, figures like Claressa Sheilds and Eddie Hearn support the notion that KingRy took steroids before the fight. However, several people, like Gervonta Davis and Sonnen, have argued in favor of Garcia.

The UFC Hall of Famer extensively spoke about this matter during an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. He called Ryan Garcia a ‘dumb-dumb’ and mentioned how people tend to exploit this. Furthermore, Sonnen suggested that somebody could have slipped him something to cause the positive drug result.

In addition, Sonnen justified this claim by stating that anabolic steroids make an athlete bigger, faster, and stronger. Hence, this description doesn’t fit Garcia, according to him, and this is why he believed that Garcia was innocent.
