The year 2024 was when Conor McGregor was supposed to make his much-awaited return to the UFC. He was going to take on Michael Chandler, headlining the main event at UFC 303. However, the UFC star has stalled his comeback for a while after incurring an injury just before the first press conference. Now with everyone wondering when the UFC star will make his return, McGregor recently sent out a tweet.
Ever since his exit, ‘The Notorious’ has remained active on social media. After multiple updates and speculations, UFC 303 was the final event everybody was looking forward to. However, it looks like the former double champion has resolved not to step into the octagon with an injury. In one of his latest tweets, Conor McGregor wrote:
I will never enter a fight hurt again and I will never lose another fight.

McGregor has one win under his belt in the past seven years. His last big win was in 2016 when he became the first fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold titles in two weight classes. His last fight was against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. It was in this very fight that McGregor incurred the injury that would put him out for years.

It was later revealed that McGregor had gone into his fight against Poirier with multiple street fractures. Even back in 2015, ‘The Notorious’ had fought Chad Mendes with a serious ACL injury. This was the first time the Irishman pulled out of a set fight and decided to put himself first. However, a few members of the MMA community do not seem to be quite happy with this decision.

When McGregor pulled out of his fight with Michael Chandler, everybody was left confused. While Dana White mentioned that the Irishman had pulled out due to injury, nobody knew the specifics. ‘The Notorious’ recently revealed through photos that the injury was in his toe.

Islam Makhachev, being one of them, wrote on X that McGregor had actually chickened out of the fight and that no one needs their pinkie toe to fight. Meanwhile, Ilia Topuria who had called out the Irishman after winning the featherweight title also joined in on the criticism.

Taking to X, Topuria retweeted the Irishman’s post, called him mentally broken, and wrote that it was his biggest lesson. He wrote that McGregor doubted himself, his abilities, and his preparation which was why he did not show up. ‘The Notorious’ has not responded to these criticisms as of now. The eventual back-and-forth between the two may result in a showdown in the future.
