Tim Legler says Joel Embiid has the most to prove headed into NBA training camp 👀 | NBA Today

Among all the teams entering free agency, no one came out better than the Philadelphia 76ers. Not only did they bring in superstar Paul George, but they also managed to assemble a talented and deep roster. Such a scenario was made possible by the clean slate they had at their disposal. This should help Joel Embiid realize his dream of winning an NBA title.

ESPN analyst and former player Tim Legler was asked about the player who has most to prove heading into the training camps. He weighed in with his take:

The talent is in place. It’s going to come down to Joel Embiid, the time is now. (He has) to deliver in the postseason, be out there every night, be consistent, and be 100%. He has not done that yet for this franchise.
Tim Legler said

Legler might have a point here as Joel Embiid’s injuries had throttled the chances of a great post season run for the 76ers. He feels this time he has to be available and healthy.

The criticism against Joel Embiid has not come for the first time. In fact, time and again other analysts have called on his conditioning and health as the single most important obstacles to an NBA title bid. Those health issues have let down their chances even when other superstars were his teammates.

His health and conditioning also affected his first few games with Team USA, prompting many to ask if he has the motivation to be great. Now the Philadelphia 76ers front office has surrounded him with the best team possible. Tim Legler feels it is up to the former league MVP if he wants to help them win a title.

Former teammate has advice for Joel Embiid

The 7-footer is listed at 280 pounds. With most of his injuries surrounding his knees, former teammate and NBA champion Dwight Howard had some advice for his fellow big man.

I think he’s too heavy for the wear and tear of an NBA season. If he loses about 20 pounds it’ll be great for his knees. He’ll be able to play a couple more years longer. He’ll be faster.
Dwight Howard said

Dwight Howard mentioned this while he was on The OGs Show on May 8th. Citing his own example of losing weight to increase mobility, he wants his former teammate to be healthier.

Howard rejuvenated his career after he lost weight. He wants his former teammate to do the same as it will help in alleviating the stress on his knees. That will not only help with mobility and athleticism but also keep himself from struggling with injuries down the stretch.

If the Philadelphia 76ers are to win an NBA title, Joel Embiid might have to listen to someone like Howard. He has the skills to win it all, as his league MVP award shows. But only translating that to an NBA title will help in cementing his legacy.
