Withย Mortal Kombat 1 due for release in a few short months, itโs no surprise that the marketing push for the game is ramping up. In between new trailers, leaks, stress-tests and the franchise creator teasing fans on Twitter, it seems two of NetherRealms Studioโs previous games are on sale at a ridiculously low price.
Mortal Kombat 11 and Injustice 2, Sub-Zero and Superman Approve
As part of the current sale over on the PlayStation store, fans of fighting games can grab two of the best in the genre for an absolutely snip of a price. The bundle of the two games includes everything, from the base games to all available DLC, which in the case ofย Mortal Kombat 11โs Aftermath add-on, will be essential for those considering buying Mortal Kombat 1.
โFollowing Shinnokโs defeat, Dark Raiden plans to protect Earthrealm by destroying all of its enemies and making an example of Shinnok; decapitating him. This latter act inspires Kronika, Shinnokโs mother and the keeper of time, to rewrite history to undo Raidenโs interference and erase him from existence.โ
The ending ofย Aftermath saw Liu Kang defeat Shang Tsung and, with Raidenโs help, completely rebuild the universe, from the timeline to the characters involved. Whilst he chose to include certain evil, it wasnโt particularly clear who was still around to be the antagonists of the upcoming sequel. Story wise there hasnโt been much disclosed about the sequel, but with regards to Mortal Kombat 11โsย story, it was a fitting end to the franchise-long-lore, and still managed to leave a few cliffhangers for fans to get excited about.
With the timeline reset, the upcoming sequel has a considerable freedom to use different, long-dead characters, as well as change the established origins of others, although that could result in some fan-outrage, depending on what and who they change.
โInjustice 2โs storyline centers around Batman and his insurgencyโs attempt to restore society after the fall of Supermanโs Regime; however, the arrivals of the newly formed supervillain group โThe Societyโ and the alien Brainiac force Batman to consider freeing the imprisoned Superman to help combat the threats.โ
Injustice 2 follows on from the cult classic and well-received Injustice: Gods Among Us, with Batman attempting to right the wrongs brought about by Supermanโs actions in the previous game. It has been six long years since it came out, and fans have been clamouring for a followup to it, and along with teasing more Mortal Kombat, creator of both franchises Ed Boon has been subtly hinting we may be getting a third installment before long.
In the meantime, weโll have the second game to fill our time with, and with the sale on the bundle of both Mortal Kombat 11 and Injustice 2, weโll have plenty to occupy ourselves with in the meantime.
Available now on the PlayStation Store for a paltry ยฃ13.49/$9.99, the total package will offer hundreds of hours of gameplay, and they both boast healthy player bases, so if youโre worried about the online servers being desolate and abandoned, donโt.
