The UFC heavyweight division is currently one of the most underwhelming divisions. Despite the presence of GOATs such as Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, the division isn’t as competitive as others. On top of that, Dana White will now have to replace the upcoming heavyweight between Alexander Volkov and Ciryl Gane.
UFC 308 is regarded as one of the most anticipated events of 2024. The PPV cards in Abu Dhabi always have stacked cards. Besides the mega main event of Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway, the main card is stacked with incredible fights. One of them was the heavyweight clash between Alexander Volkov and Ciryl Gane which has now been canceled.
Combat sports outlet, La Sueur, recently reported that Alexander Volkov has pulled out of the fight due to an injury. The fight is now postponed and will take place at UFC 310 at the Madison Square Garden. With this, Ciryl Gane will now have to wait two more months, further extending his inactivity. Gane’s last fight was at UFC Paris last year.

The rematch between Gane and Volkov might have to wait. The main event of UFC 309 will feature a heavyweight title match between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. Fight fans have given the legacy fight a lot of attention, despite some criticism of the bout. If both Miocic and Jones retire, the winner of Gane vs. Volkov will become next in line for the undisputed title shot.
Ciryl Gane vs. Tom Aspinall anytime soon?
After the official announcement of UFC 309, Jon Jones confirmed that it would be his last UFC bout before retirement. This has now ruined Tom Aspinall‘s plans to fight for a title unification bout against the GOAT. Though Dana White has promised the Brit with a title opportunity soon, things are definitely a little messy.

Daniel Cormier, however, asserts that a significant shift in the course of events is possible. DC just disclosed that in the event that something goes wrong, Jones and Miocic will not fight Aspinall.

It is unlikely that Aspinall vs. Gane will happen for UFC 310. The UFC announced that Gane vs. Volkov is now postponed to UFC 310. Considering Jones and Miocic retiring after UFC 309, the Aspinall vs. the winner ‘Bon Gamin’ and ‘Drago’ clash will definitely happen next year.
