Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor will finally collide at UFC 303. The anticipation and intensity of this fight are through the roof. According to “Iron” himself, fight fans are in for a turbo-charged fight when the octagon doors close in the UFC 303 main event.

Chandler emphatically vowed to put overwhelming pressure on Conor McGregor in an appearance on The Pivot Podcast with Super Bowl winner Ryan Clark. He planned to run straight towards McGregor from the opening bell and promised a war of epic proportions.

[Conor] is historically always a very exciting, explosive guy right out of the gate. I promise you I will be explosive and run toward the center of that octagon on June 29th right when the fight starts. You’re going to see two guys who are going to get into a head-on collision car crash… May the best man win.

Such brash confidence seems fitting for this highly-anticipated grudge match between the two former TUF coaches. Both men are renowned for their ability to attack from the get-go with no concern about their cardio. Neither backs down from any scrap when the fists start flying.

Both McGregor and Michael Chandler are coming off a loss to Dustin Poirier. They both have been out of the octagon for some time now. After some recent cancelation scares, the fight will proceed as planned. Moreover, ‘Iron’ spoke about his ambition and how fighting McGregor remained a part of it.

Sometimes, a fighter might not get an opponent that he/she wants to face. Recently, Ian Garry wanted to face Colby Covington. However, he decided against waiting for Covington due to the delay. On the other hand, Chandler has waited for nearly two years to fight McGregor.

On The Pivot Podcast, Chandler revealed his motivations despite having to wait a long time. Unsurprisingly, the bright lights and massive platform that McGregor commands played a role. Financial reasons also played a major role in Michael Chandler seeking this fight.

You want the biggest games, you want the biggest opponents, you want the brightest lights. It’s obviously the financial incentive, I want to create a life for my family so that’s part of it. But, when I got into the sport when I was 22 years old, I wanted to become the number one guy in the world and have the biggest fights that you could possibly have.

But more than anything, Chandler wanted to cement his combat legacy. At age 38, opportunities to face elite opposition are dwindling rapidly. Few fighters move the needle and capture attention quite like McGregor. Dana White also hyped the magnitude, revealing their UFC 303 main event will shatter live gate records. With over $20 million already banked, it’ll be a lucrative evening indeed.
