Callouts are a common occurrence in the world of mixed martial arts. Recently, an undefeated fighter accused a former champion of ducking him, raising quite some eyebrows. Movsar Evloev, the 18-0 featherweight phenom, had set his sights on Aljamain Sterling. However, Sterling seemed not so keen on fighting him.

In a recent tweet, Evloev accused the former bantamweight champion of pursuing “easier fights.” He asked Aljamain Sterling to accept the fight with him rather than wait for Brian Ortega. The undefeated fighter revealed that he was ready to enter the octagon and was just waiting for Sterling to sign the contract.

Let’s be real, you just want the easier fight. Unlike Ortega, I’m ready to go. Let’s get it done already.

The callout stemmed from Sterling stating he wanted to face Brian Ortega next. Ortega is the #3 ranked featherweight contender. Evloev is not far behind at #5. Sterling recently transitioned to the featherweight division, where he beat Calvin Kattar at UFC 300. He is now ranked #8 in the featherweight rankings. As such, fighting #3 ranked Ortega will likely take Sterling closer to a title shot.

On the other hand, the 30-year-old Russian has steamrolled every opponent put in front of him. Sterling had initially advocated to fight the undefeated fighter but then backtracked. He revealed that fighting Evloev would give them no advantage in pursuing the featherweight gold. However, Evloev seemed to disagree.

Evloev made his intentions crystal clear in a recent tweet. He revealed his willingness to fight anybody that would put him closer to his goal of becoming the champion. This is a lofty aspiration from the Ingushetian fighter.

UFC 303 on June 29th, I’m ready to beat anyone who will bring me to the title fight.

Evloev’s flawless 18-0 record suggested he meant business. He also alluded to wanting to fight on the UFC 303 card. Fighting on a card headlined by Conor McGregor will put a lot of eyes on him. As such, the featherweight wanted an inclusion on the record-breaking card.

Meanwhile, the featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria, has his hands potentially full with Max Holloway and possibly even Alexander Volkanovski. As such, Evloev will likely have to fight at least two times before a title shot. Only time will tell if Evloev’s next fight will place him closer to the title or not.
