LeBron James’ popularity is once again making waves as it’s about to set a new record. His high school jersey from his 2002 Sports Illustrated photoshoot is up for auction next month, and is estimated to sell for $1-2 million.
As a result, it would set a new world record for a high school basketball jersey sold at auction. The jersey has already appreciated significantly in value, as it sold for $187,500 in 2019 and $512,200 in 2021.

As revealed, the record auction, Julien’s Auctions “Legends In Motion,” will take place in Hong Kong on September 28 and feature limited-edition photo prints from the original Sports Illustrated shoot. The jersey’s sale comes as LeBron James’ legacy continues to grow, both as a basketball legend and cultural icon.
The Lakers legend and future Hall of Famer is no stranger to breaking and creating records as he currently sits atop the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. This coming season will mean a lot to him as he is set to play alongside his eldest son, Bronny James.

James will turn 40 in December with the possibility that he could retire after the upcoming season or opt into the final year of his deal for a farewell tour in the 2025-26 season.
